In the next installment of our semi-regular group calls about documenting social media datasets Libby Hemphill will be discussing work at the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) to establish the Social Media Archive (SOMAR).

Since 1962 ICPSR has maintained and provided access to an extensive archive of social science data for research and instruction. SOMAR is a recent effort to develop a new archive of curated datasets, workflows, and code for use by social science researchers for the empirical analysis of social media platforms, content, and user behavior. You can read more about SOMAR in this recent paper:

Hemphill, L., Leonard, S. H., and Hedstrom, M. (2018). Developing a social media archive at ICPSR. In Proceedings of Web Archives and Digital Libraries (WADL), Fort Worth, Texas.

If you’d like to have the information on how to join the call please contact info@docnow.io. We hope you can join us.
